Man City leading chase to bag Real's star midfielder Luka Modric
With Real Madrid's Luka Modric likely to be made
available for other clubs come June, top Premier League clubs are
fighting for the star midfielder with Manchester City leading the chase
for him this summer.
The Spanish giants, as ever, are reportedly planning another Galactico signing in the close season, with Juventus' French midfielder Paul Pogba top of their shopping list.
Should the one-time Manchester United prodigy arrive in a deal likely to be worth at least 80 million pounds it would put Modric's future in serious doubt, because in order to balance the books under Financial Fair Play, Real would be forced to off-load some of their other stars, The Daily Star reported.
And that would be the signal for City, who are set to overhaul Manuel Pelligrini's squad, to launch a 25 million pounds offer for the former Tottenham Hotspur man.
Although Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is still City's number one summer target, Etihad sporting director Txiki Begiristain reckons classy Modric would form an ideal partnership with the England ace.
The Croatian, who moved to moved to Madrid three years ago in a 30 million-pound transfer from Tottenham and has been capped 88 times by his country, has only recently returned to action at Real after four months out with a thigh injury sustained on international duty in November.
City, though, would have to move fast to secure the midfielder's services, as he has a lot of experience in the Premier League.
Chelsea, whose manager Jose Mourinho took Modric from Spurs to Real in that 30 million pounds deal back in August 2012, could well decide to enter the race.
And City's bitter rivals, United would also be monitoring developments as Dutch coach Louis van Gaal looks to add greater creativity in the middle of his squad, the report added.
