Arsenal transfer news: Arsene Wenger on alert after Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira confirms Bernabeu exit
Transfers: Latest news, rumours and gossip for Arsenal FC in 2015, with Arsène Wenger ready to consider summer move for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira
Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, will be monitoring the situation at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium after Sami Khedira, the German World Cup winner, confirmed that he will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Khedira, who was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium during the
January transfer window, has now said that he is ready to "grow"
elsewhere after spending five years at the Bernabéu where he has won the
European Cup, La Liga, Copa del Rey, Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa Club
World Cup.
“It’s not a decision against Real Madrid," Khedira told Kicker.
"I want to start a new stage in my career and continue to grow. There’s
no agreement with anyone nor do I have a preference to go anywhere at
the moment. I’ve had a magnificent time in a magnificent team. I’ll do
everything I can to keep helping the team in the coming weeks.”
The midfielder, who has been hampered with injury this season, has made just 17 appearances for Real this season.
Roy Hodgson has added fuel to the fire surrounding Theo Walcott after
the England manager said that the winger must play regular first-team
football for him to secure a spot in the international set-up.
Theo Walcott must start for Arsenal regularly if he wants to play at Euro 2016
“He’s got to satisfy a few of his critics and, if you like, make certain a) he stays fit and b) gets his place back as one of the first names on the Arsenal team sheet," said Hodgson. "When he does that, he might be pushing for a first name on the England team sheet."
The 26-year-old's contract expires in summer 2016 and on Thursday said that he has yet to open talks with the club about a new deal, alerting Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City to the prospect of signing the player.

Wenger is also understood to be ready to make a second raid on Manchester United as the Frenchman looks to bolster his defence.
After last year luring Danny Welbeck south, Wenger is now hoping Chris Smalling will follow suit and join his former United team-mate at the Emirates Stadium.
Louis van Gaal, the United manager, though, will more than likely reject the £12m offer that Manchester Evening News reports Wenger is ready to bid for the 25-year-old
