Sterling is yet to sign a new contract at Anfield, with Brendan Rodgers consistently publicly confident that his star asset wishes to remain at the club.
However, the Daily Mail report that Sterling is set to reject a contract worth £180,000 a week. The player last week said that he was focused on the rest of the season rather than contract talks, but his deal expires next summer. Sterling's representatives have become something approaching persona non grata in the eyes of many supporters.
Although Rodgers has been quick to dismiss reports that Sterling is not content at Liverpool, this latest news would come as a significant setback to the club's owners, who would have to consider selling him for a cut-price fee this summer.
One interested party in Sterling are Arsenal, according to the Daily Mirror. They report that Arsene Wenger is already plotting a summer move for the England international. Is this another question of what is being smoked over at the Emirates?
Sterling will not play for England against Italy, after being given time to recover from a toe injury in time to face Arsenal on Saturday.
I like the lad, good player but come on 180k a week. This is stupid, he is not that good yet. this is partly the media fault building him up to be our next great hope at international level. Ronneys 'teams are scared of us' comment the weekend wont have helped. Tit!
