Will Man City and Chelsea balk at asking price?

Will Man City and Chelsea balk at asking price?

According to reports over the weekend Everton have slapped a £50 million asking price on the head of Ross Barkley.

The move comes after increasing rumours suggesting that current Premier League champions Manchester City and favourites to win the title this season Chelsea are both interested in signing the England International.

Both sides could do with adding English talent to their squad to aid in their 'home grown' ratio and due to this there is a premium price to be paid on English players.

But with the Financial Fair Play restrictions Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has already bemoaned the inflated transfer fees being quoted in the Premier League.

'It is important to have English players but can you sign them?` he told the Manchester Evening News.

He continued: 'You are talking about trying to sign players from clubs that won`t sell them. Let`s say you want to buy Luke Shaw: £35m for a left-back. I'm not sure about spending that much money when we have Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov.

'Can you get Raheem Sterling? Maybe if you go to Liverpool with £100m you can.

He might not have mentioned Barkley directly, but with all the rumours it's a fair assessment to believe he may well have been referring to him whilst discussing the topic on a more general basis.

So will the £50million price tag put them off? Will it open the door for Chelsea? Or will it simply spark a bidding war?

Evertonians will be hoping it simply puts them both off and he remains at Goodison Park.
